I install the same disc on my Windows 10 computer, blammity blam blam, doesn't work. Works like a charm, no crashing, however it seemed like the movements in NPCs were a bit choppy/broken. So I found an old copy of Halo Combat Evolved, and I installed it on my laptop with Windows 8.1.
